Salber-Phillips Award

This award honors Drs. Eva J. Salber and Harry Phillips and their commitment to the health of all people, especially those in rural or underserved communities. The Salber-Phillips Award recognizes medical students who carry out the ideals of Drs. Salber and Phillips through community-oriented projects that improve the health or well-being of elderly people. Students may submit current or previously completed projects.

Three types of projects are eligible:
1) Gathering in-depth information on existing services or systems
2) Conducting quantitative or qualitative research
3) Offering a community service

Project settings may include, but are not limited to, interdisciplinary geriatric assessment centers; hospices; long-term care facilities; senior centers; and local, state, national and international health agencies or programs that serve elderly people.

One or more awards of up to $1,000 may be given. Students who wish to participate should submit the following: 1) A project description (limited to three-pages) with subsections titled Introduction, Background, Project Objectives, Methodology, (Anticipated) Project Outcomes, Timeline and Budget 2) A letter of reference from a faculty member who served, or is willing to serve, as a preceptor of the project

Students should submit their project descriptions to Elizabeth Thomas (contact information below). A faculty committee will choose the winning project(s).
